Climate Conference – Negotiation poker for four generations

The climate must improve

Civil servants from all countries fight for small steps forward or backward at climate conferences around the globe. But no significant progress is made, and at the final press conference triple steps are sold as historic decisions. The political process stands still! New forces are being sought! The climate must improve! The climate conference in Fribourg brings previously unheard voices to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and creates a heated atmosphere. Table and break-time discussions swell to the chorus of the masses. Will this go well?

Fifteen Freiburg citizens aged between 12 and 60 years have spent several months investigating facts and fantasies about climate change and taking a stand. Do we really have to give up greed? It does have its good sides! We must plan disasters better! How much C02 does the production of a play generate? And what are the Chinese actually doing? Why should I always save the world? At least I have a guilty conscience about flying!

The last world climate summit before our climate conference took place in December 2011 in Durban, South Africa. Measured against completely pessimistic expectations, it was even a success. But the fact that the next climate conference starts a month later here in Freiburg must actually give us courage. A warm welcome!
